Bravo rom-com “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” is amping up its cast for season two, Variety has learned.
“Homeland’s” Maury Sterling has been cast in the recurring role of Jo’s (Alanna Ubach) ex-husband, Frumpkis. He also has a new wife, a southern belle named Charlene (“Smash” alum Megan Hilty). Meanwhile, Aaron Staton (“Mad Men”) will be recurring as JD, a new love interest for one of the show’s many single ladies — we just don’t know which one.
Bravo’s first scripted series, “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” follows self-help author Abby McCarthy (Lisa Edelstein). A former picture of perfection, Abby finds herself navigating life as a single woman in her 40s after her seemingly idealistic career and marriage simultaneously implode. In addition to Ubach’s Jo, who is Abby’s best friend from her college days, the cast also includes Paul Adelstein as Abby’s ex-husband, Jake.
The series is created and executive produced by Marti Noxon and hails from Universal Cable Productions (UCP). The first season, which premiered in December, averaged about 800,000 viewers in Nielsen’s “live plus same-day” ratings. By comparison, current Bravo comedy “Odd Mom Out” is averaging about 675,000 same-night viewers. Season two of “Girlfriends'” is currently in production in Vancouver.
Noxon is also co-creator of Lifetime’s “UnREAL,” a scripted series about life behind the scenes of a reality TV show.
